BiG DADDY MOOCHiN' (Brighton/UK)
BDM formed in 2001, with an aim to pay tribute to the soul-funk classics of the butter funk era (1968-1974), playing predominantly female vocal classics from artists such as Ann Sexton, Mary ‘Queenie’ Lions and Marva Witney.
The band had an ever-evolving line-up growing and shrinking from gig to gig, but always delivering a high-octane dance floor funk set never to disappoint the crowd. After gigging heavily up and down the country for a couple of years playing every backwater club and seedy funk dive (the way we like them), BDM felt they had developed a sound and energy of their own that would justify being laid to wax.
So after 4 years of playing in venues such as Jazz Café, Breakin’ Bread, Hi-Fi Club, Jelly Jazz and the Soul Cellar, alongside great bands like Breakestra, The Poets of Rhythm and Speedometer to name a few, and not forgetting being the house band at Brighton’s premier funkclub – The Bake. What’s next?
BDM’s current aim is to write more material with the view to release their debut album next year! So keep your eyes peeled and your ears to the speakers and check out what these renegade funksters throw your way!!
